When you create an account, we collect:
As you use FairLedger, we store the data you actively enter:
We do not explicitly collect device or browser information. Our hosting and database providers may capture IP addresses and request logs in the ordinary course of hosting and operating the service. This data is used for security and operational purposes and is not used to identify or profile users.
We collect error and diagnostic logs from our backend functions to monitor service health and debug issues.
We use session cookies for authentication purposes only, managed by our authentication provider. We use a third-party analytics service to understand how visitors interact with our marketing site and how users navigate the application. This service may use cookies or browser local storage to distinguish sessions. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or behavioral targeting of any kind.
We do not currently collect or store payment card or bank account information. When subscription billing is introduced, payments will be processed directly by a third-party payment processor. FairLedger will not store your card number or bank details.
Directly from you. The primary way we collect information is through data you enter into the app.
Through the invite flow. When you invite a co-parent to join your FairLedger account, you provide their email address so we can send them an invitation. The invited person receives one invitation email before they have agreed to our Terms of Service. They must actively accept the invitation and complete account setup to access the service.
Automatically. We collect session tokens to keep you logged in. Our infrastructure providers capture standard server logs (IP addresses, request timestamps) as part of operating the service.
We use a third-party analytics service to understand how visitors use our marketing site and application. We do not use advertising networks, tracking pixels, or behavioral targeting of any kind.
We use the information we collect to:
We do not send marketing or promotional emails. We do not use your data to train machine learning models. We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal data in any way.
FairLedger is a shared platform. Once you and your co-parent are linked, both of you have full visibility into all shared records — transactions, messages, calendar events, custody data, and notes — from the moment the relationship is established. This symmetric visibility is the core function of FairLedger and is the primary form of data sharing in the app.
FairLedger does not share your records with courts, attorneys, or any other third parties on your behalf. If you wish to use your FairLedger records in a legal proceeding or share them with a professional, you are responsible for exporting and sharing that data yourself.
We share data with trusted third-party service providers solely to operate the service. These providers fall into the following categories:
We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any other parties.
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or valid legal process, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of FairLedger, our users, or the public.
FairLedger is designed so that submitted records cannot be edited or deleted after submission. This is an intentional feature of the service for record integrity.
What this means for your privacy:
This immutability policy is disclosed at signup and in our Terms of Service.
You can view all data you have entered directly within the app at any time.
You can update your profile information (first name, email address) in your account settings. Transaction records and messages are immutable by design and cannot be corrected after submission.
You can generate PDF expense reports from within the app. You may also request a full export of your data at any time by contacting us at legal@fairledger.app. We honor data export requests, including at the time of account deletion.
You can control email notification preferences — including daily digest and immediate transaction notifications — from your profile settings within the app.
You can delete your account at any time from the Settings section of the app. When you delete your account:
If you need your data exported before deletion, please contact us at legal@fairledger.app before initiating account deletion.
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at legal@fairledger.app.
| Situation | Retention |
|---|---|
| Active account | Data retained for the duration of your account |
| Account deletion | 30-day grace period, then permanent deletion |
| Cancelled/inactive account | Data retained for 30 days after cancellation, then deleted |
| Shared records (co-parent still active) | Shared records are removed when both parties' accounts are deleted |
We do not retain your data beyond these periods except where required by law.
FairLedger does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The app may contain information about minor children — such as custody schedules and child-related expenses — entered by their parent or legal guardian. This data is treated with the same protections as all other user data.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at legal@fairledger.app and we will take appropriate steps to remove that information.
We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including:
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to using industry-standard practices to protect your information.
FairLedger is intended for users located in the United States. If you access the service from outside the United States, you do so at your own discretion and are responsible for compliance with local laws. We do not currently operate under GDPR or other international privacy frameworks.
When we update this Privacy Policy, we will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
For material changes, we recommend checking this page periodically.
